questioning expectations

Expect great things to happen.

Expect the unexpected.

Expect the worst.

There are a plethora of quotes and clichés surrounding the idea of expectation.  Some offer hope; others caution.  Some offer an opportunity to see beyond human constraints; and others urge you to stay grounded.  With all these contradictions, what are we to really believe?

Who or what are we to expect things from?
What is expected of us?
Is is always situational?
Are expectations different for different people?

I’m a person who expects the worst in most situations.  Do I create my own destiny with this practice?

Today, I’m not going to worry about answering the questions.  What are your thoughts on expectation?

One Response to questioning expectations

  1. Bill says:

Expectation is under-rated. In fact, my friend Winnie the Pooh says that expectation is often even better than the thing itself:

“”Well,” said Pooh, “what I like best — ” and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn’t know what it was called”
